PetExperta is an independent online publication for people who share their homes with animals. We write practical, plain-English guides that answer the questions pet owners actually search for: whether a food is safe, why a pet is behaving oddly, how to set up a cage or habitat properly, and when a problem needs a vet.

What we cover

Most of our library focuses on the animals people keep most often:

  • Dogs: health scares such as a dog eating grapes, raisins or an ant trap, feeding mistakes, adoption and everyday behaviour.
  • Cats: litter box habits, diet, grooming, scratching, and choosing or budgeting for a cat.
  • Birds: cages, perches, molting, seed and enrichment for budgies, cockatiels, canaries, lovebirds, finches and parrots.
  • Rabbits: safe fruits and vegetables, baby rabbit care, litter and behaviour.

We also cover food and diet, training and behaviour, pet products and unusual pets, and two hobbies that attract a loyal following: raising butterflies and keeping ant colonies.

How our guides are made

Our articles are written and edited by the PetExperta editorial team. Each guide is researched using published veterinary and animal-welfare information, then organised so you can find the answer quickly: a short summary, the details, practical steps and a clear note on when to call a professional. Guides are revised over time, and every article shows the date it was last updated. You can read more in our editorial policy.

What we are not

PetExperta is not a veterinary practice, and nothing on this site is a diagnosis or a treatment plan. Animals differ, and a vet who can examine your pet will always give better advice than a general article. If your pet is unwell, injured or may have eaten something toxic, contact your veterinarian or an emergency animal clinic straight away.

How the site is funded

PetExperta is free to read and is supported by advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over what we write. We do not accept payment to cover or recommend products.
